We are a small charity that has been in place as a care home for older people for over 70 years. We first opened as a care home in 1947. Our home is small, taking only 19 residents. The care staff are all long serving and work to achieve social care diplomas and also if they choose, to achieve management diplomas.
The daily running of the home is the responsibility of the Registered Manager who has been in post for 14 years and has updated and improved the home.
The financial running of the home is the responsibility of the Chairman and Board of Trustees. The chairman meets with the Registered Manager each month and the Trustees every quarter. The Chairman and the Trustees all work on a voluntary basis to help give something back to the community.
Our building is a large Victorian house which has 18 rooms for 19 residents over the age of 65. One room has facilities to be used as a double room for anyone who chooses to share possibly with their spouse or a close family member.
Due to the style and age of the building not all rooms are en-suite. We have beautiful large rooms with large bay windows which looks out onto the quiet leafy crescent and colourful garden. Other rooms are small mainly without en-suites but the bathroom facilities are no longer distance that you would find in your own house. There are bathrooms with bath hoists if required and shower rooms if preferred.
There is a light, airy and spacious dining room which looks out onto the garden. The daily menu is displayed. There is also a piano which is played by the residents and musical entertainers.
There is a choice of two lounge areas. The residents mainly choose to use the front lounge which looks out on the garden and this area is used for activities and there is also a TV and items to play chosen music.
There is also a smaller lounge where people can go if they want a bit of quiet time. This room has books, a place for music and a place to play any chosen film they may want to watch in peace and quiet. We also have a selection of children's toys and books to keep the younger visitors happy.
We have a hairdressing area and we have a hairdresser visit weekly. A Podiatrist visits 6 weekly and the Dentist visits every 6 months or sooner if required.
The GP visits weekly or sooner if required and community nurses visit as required for residents who may need their input.
As we are a Charity we hold fund raising events. These are mainly at Christmas and during the Summer we hold a garden fete and invite all family and friends and include the local community. Funds raise all go back into the home to help with the cost of activities and outings for the residents.
The local community also keep us involved and invite residents and staff to any local celebrations.
All fees go towards the cost of the running and upkeep of Taptonholme which will remain a Charitable Trust.
